Dubai Municipality to Announce Plans for 3D Printed Building in Two Months

Plans of building a suspended tower from an asteroid to a 3D-printed skyscraper are possible in Dubai, according to Dubai Municipality chief.

In March, New York-based Clouds Architecture Office said Analemma Tower is a speculative idea project — “impossible to build with today’s existing technology” — but can be built in the coming decades when it will become technologically feasible.

In the same month, Dubai-based construction technologies firm Cazza announced plans to build the world’s first 3D printed skyscraper.

“[A skyscraper hanging from an asteroid] is an imagination of an architect, but everything is possible in Dubai,” Hussain Nasser Lootah told Arabian Business on Sunday.

Although Lootah did not comment on getting any proposal for a 3D-printed skyscraper, he revealed the civic body’s plans for a major 3D-printed project.

“We will be making an announcement in the next two months,” he said, without giving any detail.

In April 2016, Dubai government announced plans to build 25 percent of its buildings using 3D printing technology, estimated at AED3 billion by 2030. The emirate unveiled the world’s first fully functional 3D printed office next to Emirates Towers on Sheikh Zayed Road, in May last year.
